Lleva el nombre de Carmen Pi\u00f1eyro de Tapi\u00e9 desde el a\u00f1o 1981 en honor a la madre de su fundador, Juan Pedro Tapi\u00e9. Nacido en San Ram\u00f3n, Canelones, e hijo de Carmen Pi\u00f1eyro y Juan Mar\u00eda Tapi\u00e9, don\u00f3 el terreno al director de UTU de aquel entonces, Dr. Jos\u00e9 Arias, para la construcci\u00f3n de una escuela. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comenz\u00f3 a funcionar el 6 de junio de 1944 como Escuela de Orientaci\u00f3n Granjera y contaba entre sus producciones con las de hort\u00edcultura, apicultura y cunicultura. Ven\u00edan estudiantes de todo el pa\u00eds, y la modalidad de Internado en principio fue solamente para varones. Juan Pedro Tapi\u00e9 (1879 \u2013 1946) naci\u00f3 en el seno de una familia humilde y lleg\u00f3 a ser due\u00f1o de London Par\u00eds, una de las firmas comerciales m\u00e1s grandes del pa\u00eds. Desde all\u00ed colaboraba de m\u00faltiples formas con las instituciones de su localidad natal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La fisonom\u00eda de la ciudad de San Ram\u00f3n est\u00e1 marcada con las particularidades de las obras construidas con los bienes de Juan Tapi\u00e9 y la Fundaci\u00f3n \u201cTapi\u00e9 Pi\u00f1eyro\u201d, de la cual era parte. Por esta raz\u00f3n, varias instituciones fueron declaradas recientemente patrimonio nacional y la Escuela Agraria de San Ram\u00f3n fue una de ellas. Actualmente la escuela cuenta con 110 alumnos de varios departamentos: Durazno, Montevideo, Florida, San Jos\u00e9 y de Canelones; y su producci\u00f3n se focaliza en la lecher\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
